I photographed this man back in 2006 while in Spain to visit my sister. We were in Barcelona wandering through one of the historic parts of the city when we came upon an open air concert and dancing in the middle of a square. While we were enjoying the sights and sounds of the people around us, I caught this fellow out of the corner of my eye and was intrigued by his face and the cigar hanging out of his mouth and just had to photograph him.
Although originally shot in color, I realized this would be a stronger image in B&W so I pulled it into Photoshop, applied a B&W conversion, increased the contrast, and bumped up the blacks.
Photography Deja Vu
What are the odds that 3 years after I photographed this man, another photographer would photograph the exact same man, in the same city, smoking the same cigar? Even more unbelievable is that photographer would discover my image on Flickr and contact me to see if I had been in Barcelona at the same time. We were both surprised to find out that we had photographed the same man three years apart yet our images were strikingly similar. You can see the other photographer's color image over on my blog.
