I took these a few weeks ago at a very well known local location. It's been photographed thousands of times by others but you still have to do these spots—they are popular for a reason. It was one of those magic mornings when everything was perfect and every shot I fired was a keeper. It's hard work doing landscape photography sometimes but on this occasion the 3.30 AM start and 2 hour drive was worth it!
The point of these is to show how dramatically the mood of the scene and the resulting image can change with the light. The second one was the first I took before sunrise and naturally the exposure was really long. The second one was only a short time later but with the extra light I decided to try a much shorter exposure to show a bit of movement in the waves instead of what I usually do which is put on ND filters to keep my shutter speeds slow. I'm really glad I did as I think it works well. (The color version of this looks great too and I have it posted to 500px if you want to see it).
So which one do you like?
