In Our Own Backyard
Sometimes it's easy forget how many interesting images are right around the corner. I decided to spend one of my lunches just walking the block looking for patterns, textures, and stories… I went lightweight and took only the bare essentials — in this case I had my iPhone 5 and a pair of headphones. It's fun being so free to walk around and explore with no limitations of weight. It really lets you just observe what's around you.
My favorite image from the exercise was the set 8's displayed above. I love typography and this just stood out to me. The weathered mossy surface of the metal post telling its story to the world of the rough life outside enduring the rainy Oregon weather.
I just had so much fun being a nimble photographer and wanted to encourage everyone to just go out minimal on a walkabout and see what catches your eye. It's a great way to recharge your creative energy.
Tools and Techniques:
As I said above I only took my iPhone 5. I edited the image using snapseed on the iPhone. I love the ability it has to move the control points around to focus your adjustments to specific areas. It's amazing how you can accomplish so much in such a small package.
