I have ordered the first test print for my next gallery hanging. I'm actually very behind schedule; I should be ordering my final prints right now!
These images will be large — 40ʺ on one side. This first test is square, so the final will be 40ʺ × 40ʺ . The test is only 20ʺ × 20ʺ and that's just because the guy who runs the company isn't in town until next week and he wants to personally oversee the print at that size. So, the 20ʺ will have to do for now, and we'll discuss it when he's back.
This test print is being ordered through iacrylic.net, and will be mounted with the ½ʺ acrylic covering. It will probably be printed on metallic paper, but they will make a judgement call on the test. Once I see the result I'll decide if this is how I'll do the entire show.
This file was prepped at 40ʺ at 240dpi. That's 9600 × 9600, or 92.1 MP. This is a big honkin' file! And the process has been really interesting in getting here.
Without going into too much detail, the Leica S2 file that this originated from is not nearly as clean as I expected. I've talked about that a little here already, as well as here. What it took to get a clean image when scaled up was not fun, but I'll save that for another day.
